Analysis of Research Trends in Art Therapy Using Fairy Tale Picture Books: with a Focus on Domestic Researches

Abstract
This study targeted 46 art therapy studies using fairy tale picture books published in domestic dissertations and academic journals from 2004 to September 2020. First, it has been continuously conducted and the number of studies has been increasing. Second, the subjects of the study were infants and elementary school students, gender was mixed, the number of people was a group, and general targets were the main targets. Third, the majority of research method types were experimental and case studies, while the research design type had a high proportion of experimental-control group design, and the type of presentation of research results was integrated analysis. The dependent variable showed a high proportion of sociality. Fourth, as a result of analyzing structures and programs, most of the form were the group and the art therapy session was mostly over 10-30 sessions, 1-2 sessions per week, and 60 minutes per session. The most goal of art therapy programs was communication. A majority of the researches used creative fairy tale picture books for their art therapy programs. The method of utilization is to select and present a picture book of fairy tales according to the characteristics of the target and a method of linking realistic applications to art activities was mainly used. Planar dry media and paper recorded a very high proportion of art media used in the art therapy process. This study is significant in that it can lay the foundation for art therapy from an integrated perspective using fairy tale picture books.
